After playing in many wind quintets, I've grown really fond of how the instruments blend together to create that distinctive wind quintet flavor. In writing my own piece in the genre, I sought to deconstruct and reorganize that sound through different processes. 

The first movement begins with the fully blended ensemble sound and teases out the individual instrumental timbres. The second movement flips this relationship, giving each instrument a solo vignette which is then mimicked by the rest of the ensemble.
