BIOGRAPHY


Matt Wasson is the director of bands at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma, WA. He graduated from University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree in 2014 and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in 2019. 


Matt was selected as the 2022-23 Robert Musser Conducting Fellow for the Tacoma Concert Band


Matt's composition for orchestra, Locus (2016), was a finalist in the 2016 Washington-Idaho Symphony Young Artist Competition. Matt has written and arranged music for the concert hall, marching band field, and for virtual performance including a performance video by the Mid America Freedom Band of his arrangement of Florence Price's Adoration (2020)


Matt's band piece Winter Light (2021) was recently published through C. Alan Publications.


Matt has studied conducting with Dr. Gerard Morris and Dr. Steven Zopfi; horn with Roger Logan, Casey Traver, and Rodger Burnett; and composition with Dr. Rob Hutchinson. He has participated in conducting workshops with Mallory Thompson, Craig Kirchoff, Gillian MacKay, and Rob Taylor. 


Matt enjoys spending time with friends, family, his partner Robbie, and their cat Teddy.
